Thank you, Chad. You can tell this guy's in communications; that was a perfect summation of what we in the Nonstop community stand for, and why we're important.

I'd just also like to stress that we're important because of people like Chad Johnston. While many things have changed in the near eight years since he graduated, we're still bearing the torch of an Antioch education and Antioch values.

Chad Johnston is just one of innumerable examples of what an Antioch education means for the individual, and the wider world. He is a passionate and progressive media activist, fighting for freedom of communication as a necessary foundation for social justice.

This is ultimately why Antioch matters; why it is vital that Antioch survive, in spirit as well as name: so that it can go on nurturing and empowering people like Chad so that when they leave college, they will have the knowledge and the skills to work for the betterment of humankind.

Strongly agree with his assessment of his answer to "What is your vision for the new Antioch?" I feel like most of my ideas weren't and aren't challenged nearly enough at Antioch and Nonstop Antioch because everybody is on the same page in so many ways. The rare occasions when they have been challenged are/were some of the most rewarding I've had in a very rewarding education.

Also, I find it hilarious that the homonym for hominem as in an ad hominem fallacy should be ... well, you know. I was roaring with laughter for a good 15 seconds at that one.

Reading the interview, I’ve noticed that some misquotations crept in. Some of these were quite hilarious! But whether funny or not, I would like to correct some of them:

1) I do not know who created the WGSE program. It was started in 1984 by Antioch College’s WS faculty. Marienne Welchel, and later Jean Gregorek, were both instrumental in developing and improving (although not creating) the program. I would love to know who came up with the structure for the WGSE program because the structure has worked beautifully and is wonderfully conducive to combining experiential and classroom learning.

2) In the interview I talked about the deconstruction of the sex/gender binary that has occurred even within the sex/gender school of feminist theory. That part was cut, probably for the sake of space, but the statement is misleading without it.

3) Continental feminism focuses more on the psychoanalytic plane, the sex/gender school on the sociological plane.

4) We usually have between 5-8 lectures a week.

5) On the program, we do not talk to “Transgendered organizations” but rather trans-organizations, organizations dealing with trans-people’s issues.

6) The program did not stop going to London because of immigration issues but rather because London has gotten way too expensive for us. And the famous feminist theorist who works with us when we do go to London is Nira Yuval Davis.

7) While we did not have theory/methodology seminars in Istanbul we did have plenty of lectures.

"Angry Alumni's" story about the shower pool in South Hall is basically true. They folded towels into bricks to damn up the shower entrance, then shoved a couch in front of the dam to brace it. But it didn't close the dorm - at least not for an extended period. It did a lot of minor damage (mostly to electrical fixtures on lower floors) and some students paid fines. J. D. Dawson told the story at a faculty talent night about 1963, and I know it happened before I arrived in 1961. South wasn't mothballed until years later.

Actually South has been a pool before! Back in the late sixties or early seventies a group of partying students blocked up a shower door on an upper floor creating a pool. This lasted for a little while until the water eventually broke through the makeshift barrier and rushed through to the floors below. The building sat unusable for many years as a result and was finally refurbished only to be flooded again by the idiots in charge. Perhaps South is cursed?
